With a technique developed by Australian researcher, David Oates, the secret thoughts of anyone including celebrities and politicians can be deciphered from words spoken in reverse by analyzing recorded conversations and interviews. In his presentation to The Eclectic Viewpoint on September 10, Oates will provide the audience with actual recordings of many of the famous reversals that tell the truth behind the headlines.

Over the last ten years, Oates has painstakingly documented his research utilizing funds obtained with a small grant from an Australian government agency and with the help of others including scientists and psychologists.

What originally began as a project to dispel the fears of teenagers about Satanic messages on their favorite recordings has now become a full time career for David Oates. Being an electronic buff, he rewired a tape recorder to play in reverse and listened to recordings from popular rock groups. He found a few passages deliberately recorded backwards, but what astounded him were the messages he thought he was hearing that he knew had not been done electronically or mechanically. For the next four years, it became an obsession. He listened to recordings and TV and radio interviews of every description.

"My original concern was that it was all in my imagination, like the pictures you see in inkblots," he says. "I was wondering whether I was going insane or whether this was truly a unique discovery. It took me two years to be convinced that it was real. I found that the reversals occur regularly and that they were always related to forward speech, either adding to it or contradicting it. After recording different people, I found that their reversals revealed what people were actually thinking and feeling. How can that be a coincidence? I picked up names of family members and friends, things they had done in the past. Things I couldn't have known otherwise."

Using Electroencephalograph testing, Oates and his team determined that reversals are a right brain activity. He found this second form of spoken communication exists outside of conscious awareness and occurs constantly throughout a conversation betweeen two people, often contributing to what we call ESP or intuition about another person. Oates is convinced that Reverse Speech is the voice of the unconscious mind and that it always speaks the truth. It has the potential to reveal true thoughts and feelings, sometimes in direct contradiction to what has been spoken forward. Put simply, it can reveal anything about anyone.

President George Bush found this out very vividly back when Operation Desert Shield was in full swing. Oates found the same secret code words in the reverse of Bush's speech as well as Defense Secretary Cheney's. He contacted someone in the Defense Department, a confidential memo was issued, and this memo was promptly leaked to the press. Bush's secret code words were in the international media and the cat was out of the bag!

The Police Commissioner in Brisbane, Australia, was similarly embarrassed in 1989 when Oates claimed he was a bagman for drug money. Oates then produced the name and branch of the bank where he had his money stashed, the police found it, and the Commissioner was promptly out of a job and facing criminal charges. How did Oates find this information? He found it on the reverse of the Commissioner's speech during a TV interview. In another famous case, a prominent Australian was accused of murdering his wife's lover, but the police could not find the murder weapon. Again, Oates analyzed a TV interview with the accused man and was able to tell the police that the gun was in the cellar.
